TERRIFIER - Weapons of Thrash Destruction [Album Review]

Terrifier, known as Skullhammer before 2012, hailing out from Canada has certainly marked their presence in the Thrash/Speed Metal genre. Though “Weapons of Thrash Destruction” is only their second full length album, there is no doubt that Terrifier is here to stay. With aggressive riffs, technical solos, just perfect vocal and drums result in skull crushing Thrash band that doesn’t fail to amuse us. With bands like Annihilator, Anvil, Voivod, and the list goes on and on, Terrifier is outstanding band to be added to the Canadian roster of Thrash bands.  Speed, adrenaline, energy and the ability to add melody to such aggression results in the Terrifier we know.

The album cover shows that Thrash is what the band is all about and trust me on this one; they are. Starting with name, “Weapons of Thrash Destruction”, brings back the vibes from the old-school thrash era.

Their first track "Reanimator" is the perfect combination of aggressive thrashy rhythm combined with equally amazing performance from Chase Thibodeau on vocals, insane drums by Kyle Sheppard and not to mention killer solos by Rene Wilkinson and Brent Gallant. Just after few seconds when the song kicks in and you know you really are in for a treat.

“High in the sky above the sunrise
My gaze pierces through fleshEngineered by an unknown life form
Harvesters of death” –From their song Nuclear Demolisher. Need I say more about the track? From the moment the song kicks in, you can feel the thrashy elements entering your flesh, you are forced to bang your goddamn head along the song and there's nothing you can do about it.

The songs in the album draw inspiration from "Conan The Barbarian" and features the clip from the movie "Total Recall" in the beginning of the track 'Skitzoid Embolism' where Arnold screams, "You blew my cover".

On the other hand, there is track like "Drunk as Fuck" with entertaining lyrics. The use of synthesized vocals in a section of the song, followed by a terrific guitar solo inspires any listener to go for more of this band.

"Sect of Serpent" consists of the most unique riffs, compared to other tracks of the album. Intro of the song somehow gave the impression of "Alice in Hell". Energetic and aggressive sound can still be found in the uniqueness of the track.

Overall, "Weapons of Thrash Destruction" incorporates all the old school thrash ingredients making the band sound like early Megadeth, Metallica, Annihilator, etc. Bass cannot be heard clearly, but when enhanced, you can see that Alexander Giles have done terrific job too. This album is certainly not for posers. Also if you are not really into thrash, you might find the album tedious.

Favourite tracks: Reanimator, Nuclear Demolisher, Skitzoid Embolish, Drunk as fuck and Sect of Serpent.

Rating: 3.5/5
